*The British pharmaceuticals giant Glaxo has won US approval for its Parkinson’s disease treatment, Requip XL. The once-a-day drug uses SkyePharma’s Geomatrix technology to give continuous delivery over 24 hours. SkyePharma’s shares soared 32 per cent to 7.25p, while Glaxo shares rose 1 per cent to 10.87. The US launch of Requip XL, which is already approved in Europe, is expected by July. An older version of Requip is already approved for Parkinson’s and restless leg syndrome. Requip had worldwide sales of 94m in the first quarter, with US revenues accounting for 60m.
